model citizen was created over the span of four months through an explorative process probing modes of personal, societal, and political communication. Dancer Paolo Speirn observed the beginning of the process “I was never taught how to be a citizen. I was taught to be a consumer.” This idea gave way movement, monologue and parody experiments to try to get at the center of the discourse of citizenship. The dance portrays the choreography of political communication contrasted with Paolo’s inner struggle, softness, and masculinity.
