All at Once, 2012
Cross of the Martyrs Memorial, Santa Fe, NM
The Cross of the Martyrs Memorial in Santa Fe commemorates 21 Franciscan friars lost during the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. All At Once was a site-specific dance performance that paid homage to the unrecognized souls, both lost and living, that have created the complex web that makes up New Mexico history. All At Once was staged during El Dia de Los Muertos, the Mexican holiday commemorating ancestors through the creation of altares (altars) the use of marigolds (a symbol of memory.) As part of the educational and creative process, NMSA student dancers were invited to delve into their own understanding of New Mexico history . Based on complied research of self, state, and site, students and directors collaboratively created All At Once.
